Alright I know a lot of you are stuck working from home right now…but are you stuck or are you actually enjoying it?
I think oftentimes we glamorize working from home in our heads…ahhh the idea of no commute, not applying makeup, trading in our tight pencil skirts for our comfiest pair of sweats (that are forgiving AF when we chow down on whatever we can get our hands on in the refrigerator 2 ft away – can I get an amen), and lastly, being without the constant interruptions we get from co-workers popping in to catch up or the “hey I have a quick question” moments all day.
Personally, I have a long list of #WFH pros and a rather shorter list of cons, but they are still cons. My biggest con: I am a connection type of person. So those “hey I have a quick question” or catching up moments with co-workers fuel me to get through my work day because I have a kick ass team. They break up the monotony of yet another Monday. But as for the rest, I could say sayonara and never look back! Zoom is queen.
For those of you who aren’t loving their current work-from-home sitch, or those of you who do but need a space makeover, I have a couple tips for you.
1. Clean your work area.
This is #1 for a reason. If you have a clean space, you have a clean, creative slate to work from. Also have your chargers handy.
2. Himalayan Salt lamps are everything.
If you’re into crystals, power to ya- all the more reason to get one. I’m not, but I LOVE the ambiance of a good salt lamp, and google says they are supposed to purify the air around you, so I choose to believe google on this one. 😉
3. I am a SUCKER for fresh flowers.
As I mentioned in my post on how to make a temporary home feel homey, fresh flowers have the power to transform any space into a sanctuary for creativity and joy. My fav go-to for flowers is Trader Joes (hi peony season).
4. …And I say this one lightly, but try to get semi-ready for work.
Don’t get me wrong, I am def the girl that shows up to our daily morning zoom staff meeting with wet hair sometimes, but if you can get up, brush your teeth, wash your face, rinse off and throw your hair back in a cute pony tail or braid, it makes all the difference. What is it they say? “Dress for the job you want, not the one you have.” You get the point. 😉
5. Meditate.
It doesn’t matter if you are new to meditation or a seasoned-veteran, the benefits of a good early morning, pre-work meditation are quickly evident. Wake up, roll out that yoga mat and put on a 5 minute guided meditation (Headspace is my favorite) and see how it transforms your day.
6. Last, but CERTAINLY not least, grab yourself a good cup of coffee (or tea). The hubs and I are in a temporary living situation right now with all of our stuff in storage, so we don’t have our beloved Bona Vita Coffee Maker, but we always make sure to set up the coffee machine in our place the night before so we can be woken up by the sound of freshly brewed coffee in the morning. Note: Chobani Vanilla Creamer is my go-to.
